We are thrilled to announce that live-in care worker Olimpia Costea has picked up two trophies at the South East Great British Care Awards which took place on Saturday 18th November at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Brighton. At the prestigious industry event, she took home both the Dignity in Care award and the Home Care award, which were judged by a select panel of industry professionals.
The Great British Care Awards celebrate excellence across the care sector, paying tribute to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.
Olimpia, known as Oly, has been working in the care sector for the last fourteen years and joined Agincare in October 2015. Based in East Croydon, Greater London, Oly has been with her client Sarah as a live-in care worker for the last three years. The close bond the pair have forged is based on trust, mutual understanding and good humour.
“I just love my job! The satisfaction I get from helping Sarah to achieve the things she wants is very rewarding for me.”
Oly was in total shock when it was announced that she had won the two awards:
“I’ve never been to this kind of event before and it made for such an emotional occasion – I had butterflies throughout.”
As one of Oly’s greatest champions, it was Sarah herself who submitted a testimonial letter to the judging panel, praising her carer’s humour, activity management and holistic approach to her well-being.
“Oly is a patient person. I like to be independent and she allows me to try to do things for myself without being worried if I take a long time or make mistakes.”
“She always allows me to be myself, and gives me privacy, while at the same time keeping an eye out for when I need help.”
Live-in care is one of the services from family-run care provider Agincare, which gives clients the reassurance of 24-hour professional care in their own home with support of a carefully matched live-in care worker like Oly.
Managing Director of Agincare Live-in services Sam Mayes was delighted with Oly’s success at the Great British Care Awards:
“We are all so very proud of Oly! I am delighted that her skill, professionalism and warmth has been recognised at the Great British Care Awards by her peers.
“It’s simply fantastic that Sarah was moved enough to write a letter of support to the judging panel.”
Having succeeded in the regional stages of the competition, Oly will now progress to the National Finals of the Great British Care Awards which takes place on the 17th March 2023 at the ICC Birmingham.
