We are proud to be a Founding Member of the £500 Challenge – a fundraising campaign launched by The Care Workers’ Charity (CWC) at the Care Show at Birmingham NEC on Thursday 13th October 2022.
The campaign encourages organisations across the adult social care sector to commit to an annual donation of £500, the same as an average grant the CWC awards to a care worker experiencing financial hardship. The contribution to the CWC’s worthwhile cause is to ensure that there is a helping hand for care workers in these difficult times. Our teams nationwide regularly carry out fundraising for the CWC and support good causes in the community.
Agincare Chief Executive Raina Summerson said:
The Care Workers’ Charity provides a vital lifeline for care workers, and has never been more needed with huge demand thanks to the Covid pandemic and the cost of living increase.
As well as supporting the incredible work of the CWC, we remain resolute in our calls to government for wholesale reform, sufficient funding and a long term workforce plan for the social care sector at a national level.
The Care Workers’ Charity is experiencing high demand for their services – since 2020 they have made over 6000 grants to care workers in crisis. If one in ten organisations providing and organising care in the UK accepted the £500 Challenge, the CWC could raise £2.5 million per year to support care workers. Karolina Gerlich, CEO of The Care Workers’ Charity adds:
We are extremely grateful to Agincare who have signed up as a Founding Member of our £500 Challenge. Every organisation who signs up and spreads the word is making it more likely that our charity can support care workers across the UK, providing the right support when it is needed most.
We hope to sign up hundreds of businesses, ensuring that we have the funds we need to continue providing essential grants and mental health support in the years to come.
Agincare teams across the country regularly fundraise for the Care Workers’ Charity, raising thousands of pounds. In recent months alone, our Portland-based head office and care teams have raised over £1,200 for the Care Workers Charity thanks to a sponsored seaside stroll, bake sale and raffle.
By signing up as a Founding Member, Agincare hopes to encourage other organisations to sign up themselves to help ensure that care workers are supported to stay in their jobs and have a place to go in times of crisis.
