If you, a friend or family member are living with cancer and need help with care and support, day-to-day tasks or personal care, we can help.
We have a unique ‘person-first’ approach to cancer care, meaning we take the time to fully understand someone’s needs and situation, so we can provide appropriate support.
Cancer care tailored to you
Letting us take care of your personal care, and supporting you to get the medication, nutrition and hydration you need, and the day-to-day domestic chores done, means you can spend quality time with your family and friends.
Types of cancer care and support
Compassionate care in the comfort and security of your own home or in one of our care homes.
Live-in cancer care and support
24/7 support from a carefully-matched live-in care worker can give you and your family the peace of mind and reassurance that support will always be available whenever you need it. As well as personal care and help with household tasks, your carefully-matched live-in care worker will always be there as a trusted companion to help enrich your emotional well-being.
Cancer care and support at home
Cancer care at home support you to live more independently – giving you the confidence and peace of mind to get back to your normal routines. Your care worker will be there to support you following treatment such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, help administer medication and assist with bowel, stoma or catheter care.
Cancer care and support at a care home
As a resident of one of our care homes, you will not have to worry about household tasks that you may have previously struggled with, such as meal preparation, laundry, cleaning and taking medication. In our nursing homes we have registered nurses on duty round-the-clock who are qualified to provide the same level of care that district nurses do during their visits to our care homes.
Frequently asked questions
There are more than 200 types of cancer and we can classify cancers according to where they start in the body, such as breast cancer or lung cancer.
According to Cancer Research UK, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, accounting for 3 in 20 (15%) of all cases in females and males combined (2016-2018).
The next most common cancers in UK people are prostate (14%), lung (13%), and bowel (11%).
Though there are more than 200 types of cancer, just these four types – breast, prostate, lung and bowel – together account for more than half (53%) of all new cases in the UK (2016-2018).
There are many factors involved in developing cancer. Having a healthy lifestyle does not guarantee that you will not get cancer. But it reduces your risk and improves your general health. It also reduces your risk of other illnesses such as heart disease.
Macmillan is the UK’s leading cancer support charity. They can support you and your family through a dedicated helpline, online chat and friendly community portal.
All our care and support staff complete the nationally recognised care certificate. Specific client needs-led training is taught by internal and external trainers and/or healthcare professionals.
