Things to consider when choosing
a care or nursing home
Location
When choosing a care or nursing home, the location is important. You may want to continue to live near family and friends, or within easy access to local amenities.
Whatever is important to you, we have care and nursing homes across the country, conveniently located for you.
What’s more, none of our homes have restricted visiting hours, or require your friends and family to pre-book a visit; making it easy for those living close by to pop in for a cup of tea, or take you out for the day.
Level of care
There are varying types of residential care options that are tailored to your needs.
Our retirement villages combine self-contained apartments and residential care and nursing homes. This offers a retirement living environment for people at different stages of their lives; enabling you to live comfortably in the knowledge that specialist, 24/7 support is available whenever you need it.
All of our care and nursing homes offer respite stays, end-of-life and dementia care for older people tailored to individual needs. From the moment you enquire, our expert care teams will get to know you and build a bespoke care plan around your needs and desires.
Care team
When choosing your new home, it’s important to think about the team who will be providing your care. Are they well-trained to support your needs? Do you need nursing care?
All of our care homes have a team of highly-trained and experienced professionals who will support you whatever your level of need. They are passionate about what they do and are dedicated to ensuring you always feel confident and supported. We encourage you to visit our care homes so you can meet our friendly team and get a feel of what it would be like to live there.
Personal needs
Residential care can be the ideal solution for people with 24-hour care needs. However, when choosing a care home, you should make sure it is able to support you.
All of our care homes provide support to people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, as well as providing bespoke palliative and end-of-life care. When you choose an Agincare care home, our care team will get to know you, understand your wishes and develop a care plan that provides a clear direction on the type of care you need.
Whether you require personal care, support with daily tasks, or help getting out and about, our care team will be on hand to support you in living as independently as possible.
Care Quality Commission
It is important when choosing your new home to ensure it is safe and regulated to a good standard. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. They inspect and regulate different care services, including care and nursing homes, home care and live-in care. The CQC base their inspection on five key questions: Are they safe? Are they effective? Are they caring? Are they responsive to people’s needs? And are they well-led?
We’re proud that the CQC has rated and regulated all of our care and nursing homes to provide you with the confidence that we deliver high-quality care which is of a high standard.
All reports can be found on the CQC website.
Social life and activities
Each home has its own community with social activities, events and trips out on offer to help you maintain the type of life you had at home, whether that is quiet and relaxed or an active lifestyle.
We have designated Activities Coordinators in each care and nursing home who spend time getting to know you and will hand-pick activities based on what you and our other residents like. We have a different activity every day to provide choice, whether that’s a quiet painting activity or a group outing.
We recognise each resident is unique so there is opportunity to continue hobbies and interests with our activities teams who hand-pick activities based on your wishes.
All-inclusive fees
Find a care home that does it all for a single, weekly fee.
Our fully managed care home fees start at £895 per week. This price includes accommodation, 24-hour tailored residential or nursing care, all meals, laundry and a range of activities and outings. In contrast, our 24-hour live-in care packages can cost up to £1,100 per week excluding meals, activities and district nurse visits. Aside from the cost saving benefit, care and nursing homes also provide consistent support 24-hours a day.

In our care homes some people like the structure of three-square meals a day, while others prefer to eat smaller portions at mealtimes, and snack in between. When you move in to our home, our chef will spend time getting to know your preferences and favourite dishes.
All our care homes cater for a range of dietary needs, from gluten-free, to vegetarian and vegan. The chefs use local and seasonal ingredients as much as possible in designing their menus. They work hard to create appetising meals which are not only nutritionally-balanced, but delicious too!
Our care and nursing homes have picture and written menus, but we always re-offer before serving, to check our residents haven’t changed their minds about what they’d like to eat.
We know how important our companionships with our fluffy friends are. Not only are they part of the family, they also help with mental and physical well-being. This is why we make every effort to keep you and your pets together when you join us.
Our care homes in Surrey allow pets to move in with their owners however, this is subject to the Registered Manager’s approval.
We provide 24-hour a day tailored nursing care at Tilford Care and Nursing Home. This home combines specialist nursing care, residential and dementia care.
Our nurses provide round-the-clock care to people who require certain medications and treatment for complex illnesses. Our nursing home is suitable for people with long-term illnesses or any medical condition that needs regular support from nurses.
If you would like to view our home then don’t hesitate to give us a call and we would be happy to arrange a no obligation home visit.
Alternatively, we have regular coffee mornings where anyone is able to pop in. This is great opportunity to get to know our team and residents.
Funding may be available from your local authority. Firstly, they will check how much help and what kind of care you need: this is the needs assessment. Following on from that, the free financial assessment calculates the total cost of care and how much you’ll need to contribute. During the financial assessment it’s important to be open and honest about all your assets, so everything can be taken into consideration.
If you don’t want a financial assessment you can choose to pay for your care home yourself – this is called self-funding.
